The Works of Peter Jackson
Annotated Catalogue
Films
Item 1-The Lovely Bones-I chose this film because this film has many conventions unlike his other films. The storyline is more of a realistic quality. The colour palette is more different than the other two films because the colours are more childlike in essence. The storyline is a lot more brutal, and the trailers used for the advertisement reflects this. I used this film as a comparison to the other types of films, because the story is of a different nature. The other two films are about co-exisitng creatures fighting for survival, whilst this is a fight for justice.
Item 2-King Kong-I used this film because aswell as The Lovely Bones and The Lord of the Rings, this is also a film adaptation. He used dramatic trailers to advertise his film, the colours reflect the environments of the scenery, ie, greens and blues for the island and greys and blacks for the city, showing the stark contrast of both. But unlike The Lovely Bones and King Kong, this film adaptation is taken from a film, rather than a book. I used this film as a comparison to The Lovely Bones, as this is the conventional film that Peter Jackson has made.
Item 3-The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring-I also chose this film because of the fact that it is also an adaptation from a book. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is already infamous throughout the world, meaning there was more pressure from the audience to make it as though they were looking at the pages and imagining it themselves. The advertisement campaign showed a dramatic storyline, reflecting the story itself and the colours depicting each species made this film a very popular film, winning it many Academy awards. I used this film as a comparison, as this is also another type of film he generically makes, an already existing feature film.

Item 5-Peter Jackson The Lovely Bones Interview
http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_17538.html
This interview answers many questions about the film, but also answers the question as to why Peter Jackson had decided to do this film, because in the past, his films where of the fantasy/science fiction. He discusses the challenges that come with doing a film adaptation from a novel, such as audiences’ expectations and not being able to include one of the fine elements of the story, the fact that Susie was raped, which would have been controversial in the past and the reason why he chose to do the film. This is a useful item, as it shows Peter’s reasons why he chose to do this film.
Item 6-Peter Jackson King Kong Interview
http://www.cinecon.com/news.php?id=0512141
This interview answers why he decided to direct King Kong, as well as giving his views on all of his products, which were released around the same time. This gives indepth detail about his advertisement campaigns and talks about being an auteur. This is used to give more detail about King Kong, his other products, his advertising campaigns and being an auteur.

Item 7-Interview with Peter Jackson about The Lovely Bones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmVc0YT4NoI
Peter Jackson discusses The Lovely Bones, discussing the differences of both The Lovely Bones and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. This is an indepth analysis of them both. This allowed me to give more detail about The Lovely Bones and The Lord of the Rings and gives a better understanding to the story of The Lovely Bones.
Item 8-Interview with Peter Jackson about King Kong
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqi_C2vOars
This interview briefly mentions the technology, which was used to create the film. Andy Serkis, who is a voice-actor, and CGI actor, was used in the film as well as the Lord of the Rings as one of the main antagonists, Gollum.
Trailers
Item 9-The Lovely Bones trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikUWKi0W5_g
The plot of this story is very different to The Lord of the Rings and King Kong. The story is from the perspective of Susie Salmon, a young girl who ends up murdered by her neighbour. The colours of the film are alot more vibrant than that of the Lord of the Rings and King Kong, which uses a very neutral colour palette. This and other differences of these films are alot more obvious due to this film. The music, which is used in the trailer, shows the genre of the film is. Susie states that she was murdered, which already suggests that the film is drama-related. I used this information to get the audience a better view of the story, as well as to get an idea of the visual effects, genre and music used.
Item 10-King Kong trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5j_2sRUTbU
This is the second example of Peter Jackson's films. This clips gives me a key understanding on the sort of genre he uses and how it's changes and how different the micro-elements are compared to The Lord of the Rings-The Fellowship of the Ring.
Item 11-The Lord of the Rings-The Fellowship of the Ring trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pki6jbSbXIY
This is one of Peter Jackson's first works. This gives me a basis of the style he first used when directing. This is a film he started out from, a film, which was the basis in his directing career. This film also showed his trademarks; how he films adaptations, the colour palette he uses and the general plots he tends to use.
Radio interview
Item 13-Peter Jackson interview
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/collections/film-interviews
Peter discusses the challenges he faced with creating The Lovely Bones and how he teamed up with the writer of the script, who originally wrote it. This is a helpful interview, as he discusses the challenges of doing a film adaptation, including how he didn’t want to make it simplistic and making the film’s genre fit the book, which evidently became a thriller. He also wanted to make sure that it was suitable for a younger audience, by limiting the violence. The interview also compares the lack of violence in The Lovely Bones and the large amount of violence in The Lord of the Rings.

Item 4-The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings-I did not find this product useful, because this article did not give much information about the why he created the films, his ideas for the film and what the conventions were of his films.
Book
Item 12-Peter Jackson: A Film Maker's Journey-This product did not prove to be useful, because it was more of an autobiographical account, rather than giving answers to the questions I have asked.
